FAQs

1. How quickly will you send my chocolates?

In general Matcha Chocolat needs 1-3 business days to process, prepare, and despatch each order, though orders may occasionally take up to 7 days to be despatched.

2. What happens if no-one is in to accept a delivery?

All Matcha Chocolat items will require a signature on delivery as they are sent by Recorded Delivery. If no-one is in, a card will be left by the postman and the item can either be collected from the local delivery office or a re-delivery can be arranged. Royal Mail are now offering an online re-delivery service so that you do not have to call them first, just arrange it via their website at royalmail.com. Please note that if no one is available to accept delivery, or if goods become unsuitable as a result of non-delivery, we cannot accept liability. We therefore highly recommend that a work delivery address is provided where possible.

9. Do you use any organic ingredients?

Matcha Chocolat uses many organic ingredients such as organic: cream, butter, fruit for fruit purees, organic white chocolate and more.

10. Do you have any fair trade ingredients in your chocolates?

We recognize that the issue of ethical and environmental food production is a complex global issue that is best not reduced to the types of labels that don produce such as fair trade and/or organic certifications. Nonetheless we have chosen to work with companies that have a clearly stated ethical policy or belong to a type of fair trade organisation for all our primary produce as we feel that there is benefit to be had from doing so.

11. Are there any preservatives in your chocolates?

There are no preservatives in any Matcha Chocolate confections. The ingredients are chosen for their flavour profile only and are not added for their preserving properties (i.e. we do not stuff our chocolates with excess sugar, neutral alcohol, or vegetable oil which are commonly used as fillers in the place of fresh ingredients).

12. Can you explain the shelf life of your chocolates?

Shelf life refers to the length of time the product will remain fresh after you receive it. The Selection boxes contain chocolates made from either cream or butter based ganache. They will be at their freshest for 2 weeks after you receive them and thus should be consumed during this time. The Chocolate Shards contain no added cream or butter and will remain fresh for 3-4 months after purchase.

13. What are fresh chocolates?

Fresh chocolates incorporate fresh cream and butter and often fresh, fruit purees with chocolate in order to form a ganache, which is then enrobed in chocolate. As they contain cream and/or butter they have a limited shelf life whereas chocolates that contain preservatives or excessive amounts of sugar, neutral alcohol or vegetable oil often have an extended shelf life. Fresh chocolates are distinct because their inclusion of fresh ingredients greatly enhances their flavour, aroma and texture.

14. What is ganache? How long does it last?

Ganache is an emulsion between fat and water that is used in many culinary dishes. For chocolates, ganache can be made by creating an emulsion between cream and chocolate or between butter and chocolate. The shelf life of a cream-based ganache is approximately 2 to 3 weeks and the shelf life of a butter-based ganache is between 6 to 8 weeks. Matcha Chocolat makes both cream and butter based ganache chocolates.

15. What are tea infusions?

In order to make tea infused chocolates we combine tea leaves with hot cream and allow it to steep so that the cream takes on the flavour profile of the tea. After the tea has had time to infuse into the cream the leaves are removed and the resulting cream is mixed with chocolate in order to make a ganache.

16. Do your green tea chocolates have any artificial colouring?

No. The green colouring found on or in some of our chocolates comes from the tea itself.

17. Are the chocolates handmade?

All Matcha Chocolate products are made entirely by hand from start to finish.

18. What is your base chocolate?

As a general rule artisan chocolatiers do not make their own chocolate, rather they use chocolate to make their beautiful creations. Matcha Chocolat uses a variety of fine white, milk and dark chocolate couvetures by Valrhona, Michel Cluizel, and Felchlin.

19. Do you use loose-leaf tea?

We only use loose-leaf tea to make our tea infusions-no bagged tea.

20. Why is your chocolate so expensive?

Matcha Chocolat items use the finest ingredients and the highest quality chocolate. Many of the ingredients, such as the teas are exotic and come from all over the world. Each Matcha Chocolat confection is entirely handmade by Katie, which requires a great deal of care, which is also costly. In addition Matcha Chocolat uses special packaging that is entirely biodegradable (even the ‘plastic’ bags) and all printed materials are made to the highest environmental standards, with eco-friendly ink and paper, which adds to the overall cost of the product.

21. What is your Green Policy?

Matcha Chocolat has created a Green Policy to provide information about all our efforts to minimize our impact on the environmental.
